Dr. Ekin Blackwell
I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of British Columbia. I am a registered psychologist in British Columbia.
Through my clinical work to date, I have gained in-depth experience in the assessment and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. As part of my doctoral education, I completed a year-long internship at Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, where I obtained specialty training in Health Psychology. My major rotations included the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre and the St. Paul’s Hospital Heart Centre, where I assisted individuals in their efforts to cope with chronic illness and pain. These experiences have enhanced my appreciation of the complex interaction between mental and physical health.
My clinical style involves a flexible approach based on principles of cognitive behavioral therapy. I view therapy as a process of guided self-exploration, which is best accomplished in a supportive and non-judgmental context. My role is to help you unravel the factors that contribute to your distress, identify barriers to change, and develop new ways of perceiving and coping with your situation. At the same time, I encourage you to appreciate and foster your personal strengths and resources.
Through our work together, I aim to provide you with practical skills that will enhance your sense of control and purpose in life.
In addition to providing clinical services at Changeways, I work part-time as a post-doctoral fellow at the St. Paul’s Hospital Pain Centre, where I conduct research on bio psychosocial interventions for chronic pain.
I am fluent in both English and Turkish.
My voicemail is at our clinic’s second telephone number, 604 872 0450.
